Happy Monday, Wolves fans. I am truly sorry I haven't been able to get my usual "Gameday Primers" up the past week. College has been getting to me. Anyway, here are some gameday notes, and a few thoughts on Sam Mitchell, Zach Lavine, and Tyus Jones.
-CP3 is out and JJ Reddick is questionable for LAC
-Therefore, Rivers will handle most pg duties
-Last matchup between MIN and LAC was game of runs
-Have a hunch that tonight will act out the same way
-Everyone is healthy again
-Except for Pek, of course
-Winnable game for MIN. Tough, but winnable.
-Need to get back on winning side if they want to keep hovering around .500 and keep playoff hopes alive
-Last time Wolves beat the Clippers (April 12, 2012) only players on roster were Ricky Rubio and Nikola Pekovic
Through the first 19 games of the season, Sam Mitchell has received a lot of blame and criticism, some for good reasons and some for not so good reasons. His rotations are questionable, he's terrible with the media, and his team still shoots the most mid-range jump shots in the NBA. However, he has also done some good things, and you can read them in the following link; which is sort of a 19 game evaluation segment by Zach Harper. I read it. It was great. Now you should read it.
He has quietly been putting together a really solid season, averaging 14.3ppg, 3.6rpg, and 3.8apg. He is also shooting 92.6% from the stripe, which ranks 2nd in the NBA behind Deron Williams. Finally, he is a +.3 on the season, much improved from his -7 last season.
Was assigned to D-League Idaho Stampede (affiliate of the Utah Jazz) on Saturday. Wolves knew he needed to get some run, the key was finding a place for him to do so. "No NBA player wants to go to the D-League," Mitchell said. "But you're not going because you've done anything wrong. You're going so you can get better. And [what] he's going to realize after about five minutes there is that guards in the league go at you. This is going to be really good for Tyus." The plan is to get him about 6-7 games with the team. (Quote provided by Kent Youngblood of the StarTribune).
Well, that's all I have for this one. Enjoy the game tonight. Whenever LAC comes to town, there seems to be a lot of drama involved towards the end of games; just seems like it always goes down to the wire. Let's hope Minnesota can snap out of their 3 game losing streak with a win tonight.
By the way, did you know Kawhi Leonard is shooting 50% (41/82) from the 3pt line! 50%!!! Pretty remarkable. In my opinion, he's a top 10 player in this league and would be in the MVP conversation if Stephen Curry was actually from planet earth.
