Happy Tuesday, Wolves fans.
Tonight, the Wolves (1-4) are in Brooklyn, NY tonight for a matchup against the Nets (2-4). This will be the 2nd stop of Minnesota's three game roadtrip, with the final tomorrow in Orlando.
The Nets have compiled a jumbled mess for a roster, but a fun one nonetheless. They'll start Isaiah Whitehead, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Trever Booker, Bojan Bogdanovic, and Brook Lopez tonight. You'll then see a few former Wolves come off the bench in Sean Kilpatrick, Justin Hamilton, and 2013 #1 overall pick Anthony Bennett. I for one am looking forward to watching this oddly assembled team.
Meanwhile, the Wolves look to bounce back tonight after a rough loss against the Thunder on Saturday.
What: Wolves @ Nets
Where: Barclays Center - Brooklyn, New York.
When: 6:30pm CT
Where to watch: Fox Sports North
Where to listen: 830 WCCO
What to watch for:
3rd quarter issues: The Wolves have been one of (if not the worst) the worst 3rd quarter teams in the NBA. In the first half of games, Minnesota has outscored teams by 21 points per 100 possessions. In the second half of games, they've been outscored by 13 points per 100 possessions. Meanwhile, the Nets have had their own share of 3rd quarter issues. It will be interesting how the two head coaches manage their rotations at the start of the 2nd half. Obviously, you don't want to let the other team go on a big run to put the game out of reach, which is assuredly the next step for Minnesota to start winning basketball games.
Rookie PG dual: Due to injuries sidelining both team's starting point guards, we'll be watching two of last year's finest college basketball players in Kris Dunn and Isaiah Whitehead. The former Pirate star has had his struggles (most rookie pg's do), but Nets coach Kenny Atkinson has liked what he has seen thus far. Regarding Dunn, he'll try to bounce back after a rough offensive performance against OKC on Saturday.
KAT-Lopez: This matchup will be a treat to watch for everyone watching tonight's game. Towns has put up back-to-back 30+ point games and is looking every bit like the player we expected coming into the season. Brook Lopez has the ball in his hands a lot for Brooklyn given their lack of offensive weapons (why I have him on my fantasy team), so he'll have every chance to shine tonight against the Wolves bigs.
Karl-Anthony Towns is averaging 22 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists per game on 53.7% shooting from the field and 50% from three point range. He's essentially impossible to defend.
Tonight's game is Minnesota's first against an Eastern Conference foe in 2016-17.
The Wolves are 11/ 40 from the field and 1/11 from 3pt range during the 3rd quarter of the past two games (OKC, MEM).
Minnesota: Ricky Rubio - OUT (elbow).
Brooklyn: Jeremy Lin - OUT (hamstring). Caris LeVert - OUT (foot). Greivis Vasquez - QUESTIONABLE (ankle). Randy Foye - QUESTIONABLE (hamstring).
For confidence reasons, tonight is a must win for Minnesota, who have won 10 of the last 14 meetings against the Nets. I'd be shocked if they didn't make it 11 of the last 15 tonight.
Wolves win 109-98. Wiggins pours in 26 points. Brandon Rush hits two three-pointers.
Thanks for reading. Enjoy the game. Go Wolves.
